Joker (2019)

(8.5/10)

Movie Synopsis

🧠 My Thoughts and Feelings:

Joaquin Phoenix delivers a mind-blowing performance as Arthur Fleck, a man suffering from complex psychological conditions, including uncontrollable laughter (possibly Pseudobulbar Affect).
He stays with his mother, Penny Fleck, and dreams of becoming a stand-up comedian. Arthur deeply admires Murray Franklin, a talk-show host he watches religiously on TV.

The viewers are initially clueless about Arthur’s hidden mental struggles, making his actions both shocking and heart-wrenching.
When Arthur receives a gun from a friend for “self-defense,” it spirals into a chain of tragic and violent events — including the murder of three men in the metro.

One of the most heartbreaking parts was Arthur’s fantasy relationship with his neighbor — a love story that was just a figment of his imagination, exposing his deep isolation.

The shocking revelation about his mother being a foster guardian and the harsh reality of his childhood abuse break the remaining pieces of Arthur’s sanity.

The second half of the movie is powerful, painful, and intense, leading to the birth of Joker — not as a villain, but as a symbol of a broken society.

🌟 Highlights:
•Acting: Joaquin Phoenix’s stunning and transformative performance (won Oscar Best Actor 2019).
•Direction: Todd Phillips’ gritty, slow-burn storytelling.
•Music: Hildur Guðnadóttir’s haunting background score.
•Cinematography: Dark, moody, perfectly matching Arthur’s descent.

🚫 Lowlights:
•Heavy and intense — not a “fun” movie.
•Can be emotionally draining for some viewers.
•The slow pace may not appeal to everyone.

🎯 Final Verdict:

Joker (2019) is a masterpiece of character study, showing how society can create its own monsters.
It is dark, raw, emotional, and makes us deeply uncomfortable — which is exactly why it is unforgettable.
